When God and You Have Things to Do

Ever feel like you're on the cusp of discovering something amazing about God and amazing about yourself only to be interrupted by

SOMETHING or

SOMEONE

pulling the rug right out from under you?

You were on the right track.

You were ready to take your commitment to Christ to the next level.

You're grateful for His goodness.

You're open to His opportunities.

You're determined to be more disciplined.

You're ready to take your faith to next level and (re)discover your gifts when all of a sudden...

DISTRACTIONS.

Ugh.

Pain, mess, and distress invades your space and disrupts your flow.

And we don't take our struggle lightly, do we?

No, and we shouldn't.

We invest ourselves in finding a solution because we want better for ourselves and for those we care about.

But we can't let the distractions overwhelm us to where we veer off the course to our calling.

There are lives waiting to be changed, INCLUDING YOURS

So what lesson is the great distraction trying to teach us?

Ask yourself...

"is this distraction a STOP LIGHT or a BILLBOARD?"

Now about the gifts of the Spirit, brothers and sisters, I do not want you to be uninformed. You know that when you were pagans, somehow or other you were influenced and led astray to mute idols. ~1 Corinthians 12:1-2

Ever been on a country road sitting at a stop light with no one coming from the other direction asking yourself, "why am I sitting here?"

I have.

The stop light did its job. It made you stop in your tracks and wait, holding you up from what's ahead.

What about a country billboard? I love country billboards. They don't work to hold you up, they inform you of what's ahead so despite what you see, you know you're on the right track.

What if this great thing, this great

diversion interruption disturbance intrusion interference obstruction hindrance is a signal not to stop but press onward?

Not that I have already obtained all this, or have already arrived at my goal, but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me. Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus. ~Philippians 3:12-14

Maybe it's just me, but I'm sick of every time I get closer to doing His will His way, life tries to drain me and keep me from what God has for me.

Are you? Yes? Then it's time to shift our perspective:

But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. ~Matthew 6:33

KNOWING AND GROWING IN YOUR SPIRITUAL GIFTS DRAWS YOU CLOSER TO KNOWING, LOVING, AND UNDERSTANDING CHRIST.

I KNOW God wants this for us, so OF COURSE crazy stuff is happening!

But baby, it better hold on for the ride or get off because we are not letting go this time!

You with me?

I've been more excited about this Spiritual Gifts series than almost any other we've done. When I think of the Body of Christ living out purpose, I get a glimpse of Heaven touching earth and I love it!

It's time to leave the concerns of your life at the CROSS and let the blood of Jesus - our Rabboni, our teacher, the One who gave us the Spirit of Truth - do what we can't so we can be free to do His will.

How???????

KEEP YOUR FOCUS and KEEP CLIMBING.

FOCUS.

Don't let life distract you. Focus on the One who died that you could thrive.

CLIMB.

This win will not be pretty, but it will be worth it. Keep going.

Then we will no longer be infants, tossed back and forth by the waves, and blown here and there by every wind of teaching and by the cunning and craftiness of people in their deceitful scheming. Instead, speaking the truth in love, we will grow to become in every respect the mature body of him who is the head, that is, Christ. From him the whole body, joined and held together by every supporting ligament, grows and builds itself up in love, as each part does its work. ~Ephesians 4:14-16
