TIME TO TAKE CARE OF YOU

Ten years ago, I wrote a devotional series based on one of my favorite ol' school song, "For the Love of You" by the Isley Brothers. One of the pieces focused on the concept of paradise:

"Paradise I have within,

Can't feel insecure again

You're the key (well) And this I see (oh I see)"

For this verse to be so simple, it speaks volumes about something we all long for -

a taste of paradise.

Two words define paradise for me - rest and acceptance.

"With your acceptance comes rest. Lord, give us Rest."

Is that your prayer?

To rest in a way that you know

that you know

that you KNOW

everything is under control, even if it's not perfect?

You can rest in knowing things are taken care of and issues are resolved. And if they are not resolved now, you can trust that they will be.

In this present moment, God has a rest customized for you.

"He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty... He will cover you with his feathers, and under his wings you will find refuge." ~Psalms 91:1,4

In this moment... on this very day... God desires that we engage the deep rest He has for us. To do so, He simply asks that we do one thing...

DWELL.

Yes. Dwell.

But 2021 is around the corner, and you want to be ready.

True.

There is still so much to be done.

True.

And God is still asking you to "dwell".

The Hebrew word "dwell" serves as a translation for nine words, but two of the most frequently used translations are "yashabh" (or "to sit down") and "shakhan" (meaning "to settle down").

IT'S TIME TO SIT DOWN

Stop. Stop running. Your soul needs something different.

Just because the date changes doesn't mean you won't have challenges.

Make yourself and your spiritual well-being a real priority in your life.

Seek His face.

Make claim to the place where you find it

so you can return to your piece of paradise when you need it.

Yashabh.

IT'S TIME TO SETTLE DOWN

Prayer and meditation have not lost their power.

They allow us to reach out, cry out, even shout out.

As you prepare for the new year, create a revolution in your life.

Lay your troubles at Jesus' feet before you communicate them to anyone else.

Experience what it means to rest "in the shadow of the Almighty".

Give God the opportunity to settle your spirit.

Shakhan.

No one is going to take care of you like you.

Sow and nurture the seeds of anointed rest in the garden of your own spirit,

then watch them grow.

As we prepare for the new year, Let this be our "RIGHT NOW" prayer:

"Lord, saturate us as we seek you. Permeate us when we pray. Mature us when as we meditate. Help us find our place of sitting and settling down so we live under the protection of your anointed rest. Teach us how to live for the love of YOU, for only in you will we find our true 'paradise'. In Jesus' name, Amen."
