What Your Future Demands
"I wish I had more time."
Busy people say this a lot. Moms, dads, CEOs, just about anybody can say it with meaning in today's world. I mean, do you know anyone proclaiming they have too much time?
Unfortunately, these are also the last words said too often on a deathbed.
I don't mean to be morbid, but I do intend to be honest.
What Will be Your Last Words?
I don't want these to be the words and thoughts weaved between my last breath. I want to remember using my time to the full. I want to drink every drop life has for me. I want everything God keeps whispering in my ear, and I want to be able to enjoy it.
Now, to make this dream come true, I just need to do two things:
Learn how to say "no" to the excess, and let God strengthen me for the rest.
Jesus said it in the Sermon on the Mount: let your yes be your yes and your no be your no. I want my word to mean something, but saying "yes" to everything means eventually it will shift to a "no" unintentionally.
Because I'm not Superwoman.
I don't have a cape.
I didn't take flying lessons.
I don't have a force field.
I feel.
I grieve.
I laugh.
I love.
I'm human.
Saying "yes" to everything doesn't make us successful. It make us busy. Unfocused.
Tired. Overwhelmed. Mean.
That's not what I want.
In the past 30 days, I've said "no" to more things than I can count. I've had my phone on silence more than ever before. I just announced Sunday that "GOD for Grown-Ups" will be on break for a month.
Give Heaven Room to Work
Yes, I'm tired. That's part of the reason for the paradigm shift. But its more so because of the things that matter most to me, the things God has given me. Saying "I wish I had more time" at the pearly gates is not an option.
If this were a movie, I'd call it, "Purpose Prep: Uncensored".
This is where that push from whatever keeps gnawing and distracting you from the assignment comes face to face with your Savior. In purpose prep, you're going to be
tired,
overwhelmed,
anxious,
exhausted
because purpose demands more than flesh can handle. That's why I'm saying "no" more these days. I need to give Heaven room to work. I need to focus on the assignment and let God deal with what ails me.
But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” ~2 Corinthians 12:9, New International Version
It's okay to human when divine is on your side.
Your grace is sufficient for me.
Acknowledge your limitations to a limitless God.
Your power is made perfect in my weakness.
Then get out your calendar and start pruning your tree of purpose for new growth.
The closer Jesus came to the Cross,
the more he said no,
the more he limited his circle,
the more he removed himself from distractions,
and the more he let destiny humble him.
This is what purpose prep looks like.
Purpose is humbling. You are stronger than you know, but not strong enough to do this alone. Stop trying to control everything. Stop trying to do everything. Your future demands different. Your victory in weakness will be Heaven's testimony.
And with that said, I can't ask you to do something I won't. "GOD for Grown-Ups" on Sundays will return in June. In the meantime, click the button below, go to YouTube and hit the replay! The blogs will continue, so I will see you here next week.
