Still Haven't Found What You're Looking For?
There's got to be more to life than this...
Dog Tired and Unfulfilled
Last week, we explored being underwhelmed and overutilized...
"To be underwhelmed but overutilized is to be busy with little benefit, to fill up your calendar with more work and less wonder. Quick to impress, but no impact. We can spend years investing into the expectations (or limitations) of the world and not produce any of God's fruit. Doing so creates a cycle of frustration and hesitation that will keep you dog tired and unfulfilled.
Dog tired. Unfulfilled. That was me."
The past several months, I've had to address this issue upfront and accept the fact that my disobedience in a particular area of my life was holding my rest and the full manifestation of my dreams hostage. Queues from my body and spirit provoked me to address my personal challenges and realign myself with God's will else my Heaven on Earth would remain far off. Continuing to be out of order meant underwhelmed and oversaturated would no longer be a season, but a lifestyle... a life of unrest. Not acceptable.
I know I am not alone in this dilemma because I see too many frustrated people living their so-called, "best life".
Is that you?
Funny. Others can see and celebrate what you've accomplished and yet you still struggle to do so. Why? Because you know there is more to you and God than this.
There remains, then, a Sabbath-rest for the people of God; for anyone who enters God’s rest also rests from their works, just as God did from his. Let us, therefore, make every effort to enter that rest, so that no one will perish by following their example of disobedience. ~Hebrews 4:9-11, New International Version
So what's stopping you from embracing the rest that has your name on it?
God's Got What You Need
It's time to redefine what success looks like.
The book of Hebrews eloquently speaks about the superiority of our Jesus. We can trust the words of the great prophets because they gave us glimpses of His glory. The work of angels makes sense because they operate under his authority. We can oblige Heaven with our obedience and do what sometimes feels like meaningless or unrelated tasks. We can do by faith whatever the Savior asks us to, but do we?
Are we missing the mark when it comes to success?
Authentic, meaningful, transformational, Godly (with a capital "G") success is not measured in numbers or followers or likes. The success that matters to the Holy One is counted unto obedience. Obedience brings forth the harvest of an anointed, God-satisfied rest now and in the hereafter.
To operate in disobedience is to embrace a life of unrest. Only in consistently pursuing and achieving the goals of God do we finally find the rest we've been looking for.
And let's not be so naïve that we limit God's request for obedience to what the world classifies as "purpose" or how we think we should live in public display. Persistent disobedience can easily become the "little fox" eating away at your rest and your best:
Catch for us the foxes, the little foxes that ruin the vineyards, our vineyards that are in bloom. ~Songs of Songs 2:15 NIV
The Father expects our cooperation in every aspect of life:
Relationships
Finances
Health
Giving
Serving
Habits
Want the peace that surpasses all human understanding? Be consistent in prayer and supplication. Want to live a prosperous life? Live and give generously. Let the word of God chasten and guide you to complete satisfaction:
For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart. Nothing in all creation is hidden from God’s sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of him to whom we must give account. ~Hebrews 4:12-13 NIV
Once God was satisfied with the work of creation, He gave himself space and time rest and be fully satisfied. That's what an anointed rest is; to be fully satisfied. Ask yourself...
"Am I on the path to being fully satisfied?"
Does your obedience measure up to the rest you need from God? If there is even the slightest hesitation in your response, accept the fact that there is still work to do before you find what you've been looking for.
The Search is Over. Now, the Real Work Begins.
Lord...
Let us not be too stubborn to submit. Teach us not to dismiss even the obscure things you ask us to do, but instead do them with reckless abandon. We seek your anointed rest - that Heaven on Earth only you can provide. Let our obedience position us to also rest in future glory. In Jesus' name alone we ask and we believe it to be so. Amen.
“Today, if you hear his voice, do not harden your hearts.” ~Hebrews 4:7b NIV
Unrest is not your end. Life has too much goodness in store for you to settle now. Remove the veil of disobedience and see that what you've been looking for, rest in Christ Jesus, has always been here.
“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. ~Matthew 11:28-29 NIV
