Keep Your Eyes Open

When you're ready for purpose, Heaven will leave the light on for you.

In the Sermon on the Mount, The Messiah emphasizes what living as a light does for others. In Luke 10, he unpacks what living as a light will do for us:

“No one lights a lamp, then hides it in a drawer. It’s put on a lamp stand so those entering the room have light to see where they’re going. Your eye is a lamp, lighting up your whole body. If you live wide-eyed in wonder and belief, your body fills up with light. If you live squinty-eyed in greed and distrust, your body is a musty cellar. Keep your eyes open, your lamp burning, so you don’t get musty and murky. Keep your life as well-lighted as your best-lighted room.” ~Luke 10:33-36, The Message Translation

For the past few weeks during our GOD for Grown-Ups Bible Study, we've been in a sub-series called Purpose Prep. If you know God has an assignment on your life, I encourage you to check out.

Living in the Shadows

Y'all, helping others pursue and fulfill purpose is my jam! It's why I wake up in the morning exhausted but still in pursuit. The hours, the workload, the "blood on the page" when I write - these are all things I give freely to encourage or "infuse courage" (as Pastor Tim Ross puts it) into someone living in the shadows.

But how can I help you if my light burns out?

I have to keep my eyes open. We have to keep our eyes open.

The scripture says if we live wide-eyed in wonder and belief, our body will fill up with light. God is asking us not only to be vulnerable to him, but to do so with the purity and generosity of a child. The Father desires that we soak up every ounce of his goodness, believe in him beyond logic, and let his light shine even in the dark places of our lives.

Pure. Absolute. Illogical.

God wants you and I to trust him with reckless abandon.

It's how we demonstrate our readiness for purpose.

Pure, absolute, illogical trust.

Fulfilling purpose is as much about you as it is about those destined to be blessed through you. Don't let the cynicism and distrust of the world dim Heaven's light within you. Keep your eyes open to the light of Christ Jesus so you can light up the world.

Father,

with every passing day you compel us to show ourselves ready for the future we keep asking for. Today, we ask you to shed your light. Heal our dark corners of skepticism and distrust. Keep our eyes open and our souls focused on you. Join your super to our natural. Together, we will light up the world. In Jesus' name we pray. Amen.
