Don't Walk Away
Has a scripture ever made you cry?
Not a sermon. A scripture.
Have you ever had a text become more than just a revelation about God, but a confirmation about you?
I just had such a moment.
One where I stopped wading in ambiguity and stepped on solid ground.
One that traveled me back in time to see why God keeps provoking me to do certain things and preparing me to do what feels impossible.
If you've never had such a moment, I pray that you do.
This is an all things new moment, and I don't want to let it go.
I don't want to let the world in.
I don't want to go and do. Not right now. This is too good to walk away from.
Abide in me, and I in you. ~John 15:4, King James Version
I just want to sit, soak this up, then find a way to take this piece of God's peace with me.
I have to hold this one in my heart.
Put it on my home screen.
Write it on a sticky note and put it on my dashboard.
Play it in my car.
Something.
“You shall therefore take these words of mine to heart and to soul; and you shall tie them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets on your forehead. ~Deuteronomy 11:18, New American Standard Bible
I don't know about you, but holding his word in my heart can be harder than you think. Knowing the Bible backwards and forwards does not keep what is in front of your face - family, work, life, pain - from trying to invade the sacred space in your mind.
But if we are to be a part of Jesus' all things new, we have to be new, too.
Then He who sat on the throne said, “Behold, I make all things new.” ~Revelations 5:21, New King James Version
Even if the revelation God gives you is disheartening, the tears that flow from it are a sign of a breakthrough.
His Word,
his love,
his answer
breaking through to you.
I needed this breakthrough, and I do not want to let it go.
If you've never had such a moment, I pray that you do.
And when the tears come, see them as a release. A celebration in your soul that your words haven't join yet.
Let the tears flow.
Ask God to let his Word break through to you so Jesus can make all things new in you.
Let
the tears
flow.
Scripture is not just where God speaks, it is where he speaks
personally.
intimately,
privately
to you.
It is not just words. It is the word of God.
So, let the tears flow. Let the Word come to life. Let it comfort you, confirm you, celebrate you.
Jesus - your confidant - is jumping off the page!
The Holy Spirit - your secret-keeper - is reporting for duty!
The word is sacred and safe. The divine rope binding us to heavenly places. So, don't let go of your rope. Hold on like the life you desire depends on it because (guess what?) it does.
Oh... I forgot to tell you the text that has me sitting here in tears. The text is actually a psalm (don't you just love Psalms?), but it feels like a song written just for me:
My mouth will tell of your righteous deeds, of your saving acts all day long— though I know not how to relate them all. I will come and proclaim your mighty acts, Sovereign Lord; I will proclaim your righteous deeds, yours alone. Since my youth, God, you have taught me, and to this day I declare your marvelous deeds. Even when I am old and gray, do not forsake me, my God, till I declare your power to the next generation, your mighty acts to all who are to come. ~Psalm 71:15-18, New International Version
Calling yourself a Christian is one thing. Seeing all things new is quite another.
My whole life - my love, laughter, lament, everything I have gone through - has been for me to give you something for your journey.
In seven days I will be fifty-six years old, and God is asking more of me in ministry now than perhaps at any other time in my life. His vision for GOD 'n You reaches far beyond my imagination and yet, he has given this assignment to me.
So, I don't care if the algorithms pick up this blog. I just need you to.
What God has for you in his Word is too good to walk away from.
Don't walk away.
