Jesus Christ, Therapist

Writer's picture: Phillipa WilliamsPhillipa Williams

THIS MONTH'S THEME: CALM. DOWN.

He grieves at the tomb of his friend, enters the city knowing what awaits him, is beaten to an inch of his life, stripped, tortured, then hung on a cross for public display, and the first thing he does coming out of a borrowed tomb is come to see about us. That is a God I can live with.

He Sees You, He Hears You

One of the things we are witnessing in these last days is an epic level of despair formed by the dismissal and disposal of careful consideration when it comes to our fellow man. Mary Magdalene becomes the first official evangelist spreading the Good News but just as importantly Christ lets her know... I see you. "Mary" Now when He rose early on the first day of the week, He appeared first to Mary Magdalene, out of whom He had cast seven demons. ~Mark 16:9, New King James Version We do not listen to one another. We make no time to listen to one another. Or we pretend to listen but actually assume. It is just too easy to feel alone. But Jesus sees you. He hears you. He saw Mary Magdalene at the tomb weeping. He saw the men on the road traveling. He saw the disciples hiding in fear and fishing. And in all these scenarios, he never dismissed their struggles, never chastised their anxiety or overlooked their loss. Jesus saw them and he heard them. I wonder how the conversations flowed in the forty days after the tomb. You know, once reality kicked in and the disciples (including Thomas) accepted that he who was once dead is alive again. How much was amazement? How much was curiosity? How much was just good therapy? Jesus, the Great Comforter before Pentecost. Jesus, the Great Therapist. Jesus, the Greatest Friend. Fear has no stronghold in Christ's presence. I have no doubt the Master of the Universe believes in godly counsel. His office was open for forty days and nights so his people might be seen and be heard. Right now, even at the right hand of the Father, the Doctor is in. He will never leave you. He will never forsake you. His door, his heart, his ear is always open to you. He is a God you can live with. Make your appointment today. I pray you find the peace that surpasses all human understanding. Much love,
