9 Days of Seclusion: CAVEDWELLER

Click below to listen to the Devotional Reading of "CAVE-DWELLER"

Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.” ~Psalms 91:1-2

_____

I seek refuge in the cavern.

It’s dark, but I can feel the bedtime stories of sacred text etched in the ancient stone that surrounds me. They guide me as I walk deeper into this comforting bowel of earth.

I seek refuge in the cavern.

I feel wisdom like mud squeezing between my toes.

The steep and curving path becomes narrow and focused, and so do I.

The warmth from the core engulfs me. Air steamy and fresh replaces the cold draft full of cold lies.

My change has come.

This is where my pain will find its promise.

This refuge will bring my release.

I pause to gather myself and allow this sauna to open up my porous spirit and cleanse me.

As I breath in heaven’s humidity, my pre-conceived notions of how grace should look and how victory should feel start to melt away.

There is no more outside influence. No planetary surface or opinions. No going back.

God’s sovereignty, like sweat, is beading on my skin.

I am one with the keeper of my soul, and the cool mist from His kiss on my cheek makes this cavern become a haven and hug me close.

I feel the embrace of angels. Joy is on every side.

Serendipity calls my name, and I heed.

Finally, I heed.

Heed to the peace that only this gathering of soulmates could provide.

My eyes are closed by hands not mine. My temples rubbed by fingers of clay.

I drift into slumber, but my sleep is not an escape.

It is my surrender to the spirit.

My RSVP to dance with God, to glide across the floor with the ONE who has waited for me.

My Lord, my Savior, my Friend wraps my essence in sackcloth and takes me into His bosom.

He bows His head and prays for me as the seraphim sing sweet lullabies in my ear.

Jesus, my Christ, my All... your love exposes unspeakable revelations to me.

I bask in how you delight in me.

I am captivated in your arms as you rock my soul to peace.

God, allow me to come again to this sacred ground,

to encounter this humid haven and get my touch from heaven.

Let me always find my way back to you and my refuge in the cavern.

Where is Your Refuge?

“Because he loves me, says the Lord, “ I will rescue him; I will protect him, for he acknowledges my name.” ~Psalms 91:4

There is a level of protection from God that can only be experienced when we are in His presence, when we acknowledge Him, when we co-habitat with Him. That is what is means to "dwell".

Let your pursuit of Him become the pathway to His protection.

His arms await you. Only there will you discover something unspeakable.

Only where you dwell with GOD can you find refuge in the cavern.
